Short answer
Live resin vaporizes at 450°F to 600°F. Put a rice-grain-size piece in a heated quartz banger or an e-rig bucket. Cap it, inhale for 5 to 10 seconds, then swab the bucket with 91% isopropyl alcohol. Lower heat gives more flavor. Higher heat gives larger clouds and harsher vapor.
What live resin is
Live resin comes from plant material frozen right after harvest instead of dried and cured. The freeze holds terpenes that curing drives off. THC content lands between 60% and 80% in most tested batches. Texture runs from sauce and sugar to badder and budder.
What you need
- 1 gram live resin
- Quartz banger and torch, or an e-rig
- Carb cap
- Dab tool
- Isopropyl alcohol, 91% or higher
- Cotton swabs
- Timer or infrared thermometer
Steps
- Set the rig on a stable surface. Keep the torch away from curtains and paper.
- Heat the banger 30 to 45 seconds. Move the flame around the walls and floor.
- Wait 30 to 45 seconds. The banger should stop glowing orange.
- Drop the dab in with the tool. Cap the banger.
- Inhale slow for 5 to 10 seconds. Hold 2 to 3 seconds.
- Exhale. Wait 10 to 15 minutes before a second dab.
- Swab the banger while it is warm. One dry swab, then one with alcohol.
Temperature
- 450°F to 500°F: terpene flavor, thin vapor
- 500°F to 550°F: balance of flavor and volume
- 550°F to 600°F: large clouds, harsher hit
Above 600°F terpenes break down and the hit tastes like ash. Below 450°F the resin pools and does not vaporize.
Cold start method
Load the dab into a room-temperature banger. Heat the banger and watch the resin melt and bubble. Cap it and inhale when bubbles start. Cold starts cut the timing guesswork. Most e-rigs use this method with preset heat profiles.
Dose
A rice-grain dab holds about 10 to 25 mg of THC. That is 2 to 5 times a standard 5 mg edible dose. Inhaled THC reaches the blood in seconds and peaks in 10 to 15 minutes. Start with one small dab and wait 15 minutes.
Storage
Live resin holds terpenes at 60°F to 70°F in a sealed glass jar. Light and heat degrade THC. A refrigerator works for long storage. Let the jar reach room temperature before opening to stop condensation.
Convenience and format
A torch and banger cost less per gram. E-rigs run $150 to $400 and remove the open flame. Live resin vape carts cost more per gram but need no tool, no cap, and no cleanup. Carts and pods take a larger share of concentrate sales than loose extracts in several state track-and-trace reports. Federal law does not cover these products, so lab testing and label accuracy vary by state.
