The pick, up front
Pick the dispensary with the boring Reddit thread. That sounds like a joke, but it is the most useful filter I have found. Boring means people describe the wait, the parking, whether the online menu matched the shelf, and whether the order-ahead line actually moved. Threads full of hype and jar photos and zero logistics are the ones that disappoint me.
cannabis dispensary reviews reddit
Convenience is not a small factor anymore. It is often the whole decision. If two shops sell comparable flower at comparable prices and one gets you out in eight minutes, the review score stops mattering. So I weigh convenience first now, then quality, then price. That order would have sounded wrong to me a few years ago.
Why convenience took over
Delivery, curbside, and online pre-orders changed what shoppers compare. A decade ago a review was about selection and how much the budtender knew. Today the first question in most threads is some version of "can I order ahead and skip the line." When a shop gets that wrong, the thread fills up fast, and the complaints are specific in a way that general praise never is. People remember standing outside for forty minutes. They do not remember the strain names.
What I check in a dispensary thread
- Dates. A glowing post from two years ago says nothing about current staffing.
- Whether the poster used order-ahead or walked in. These are different experiences at the same address.
- Menu accuracy complaints. If three people say the online menu was wrong, it was wrong.
- Parking and entry. Small detail, big effect on a twenty minute trip.
- Replies from locals who post in other city threads. That is the closest thing to a credible source here.
The three options
Best overall: the order-ahead storefront
This is the pick for most people. You browse the real menu, pay or reserve online, and walk into a separate line. The good ones text you when the order is bagged. The bad ones let online orders rot behind the walk-in queue, which is exactly what the Reddit complaints describe. Read for that pattern before you commit.
Best for no-car days: delivery-first shops
Delivery earns its place when the alternative is a forty minute round trip. Watch the delivery minimum and the cutoff time in the thread, not on the shop's own page. Reddit is better at reporting the real window than any listing.
Best when quality beats speed: the specialty shop
Some shops are slow on purpose and worth it. Narrow selection, fresh batches, staff who can tell you the harvest date. Go here when you are buying for a specific reason and can absorb a wait.
Where convenience stops being the answer
If the thread is thin, convenience claims are guesses. A shop with four reviews and a slick pre-order flow is unknown, not efficient. Same for anywhere the only recent posts are from accounts that also promote the place. I would rather drive past a fast shop with no information than gamble on one.
How to test a shop in one visit
- Place an order ahead at an off-peak hour. Note whether the confirmation matches the shelf.
- Time the pickup from door to exit.
- Ask one product question you already know the answer to.
- Check whether the receipt matches what you were told at the counter.
Then post the result somewhere. That is how the next person's boring thread gets written.
