What a hash hole is
A hash hole is a rolled cannabis product with a concentrate core. Flower forms the outside. A strip or tube of hash, bubble hash, or rosin sits in the center. Cut the joint in half and you see a ring of flower around a dark resin center, which is why the format also goes by the name donut joint or donut.
The concentrate is not spread through the flower. It stays as one mass in the middle. That placement is the point. As the burn reaches the center, the hash melts and the flower carries it.
Where the name comes from
The term comes from the legacy California market. Rollers packed a hole of hash into the middle of a cone, so the product took the name hash hole. Social media spread the format to other states, and dispensaries now sell pre-rolled versions in several markets.
Hash hole vs. a standard infused joint
An infused joint often uses flower coated in distillate, kief, or a liquid concentrate. A hash hole uses a solid core of solventless material. Infused joints burn even because the additive is thin. A hash hole burns hotter in the middle and can run if you pull too hard.
Potency and effect
Potency depends on both inputs. A flower joint at 20 percent THC plus a core of 70 percent rosin adds up fast. The high tends to arrive in two stages: the flower lifts first, then the concentrate deepens it. Treat a hash hole as a high-tolerance product, not a starter smoke.
How to roll a hash hole
Before you start, gather coarse-ground flower, a chunk of hash or rosin, rolling papers, a poker, and a tray.
- Grind about one gram of flower to a coarse, even texture.
- Shape the hash or rosin into a cylinder about the width of a pencil lead.
- Lay a paper in the tray and spread half the flower along the crease.
- Set the concentrate cylinder on top of the flower bed.
- Cover the cylinder with the rest of the flower, keeping the core centered.
- Roll the paper tight from the bottom edge, tuck, and seal the gum line.
- Pack both ends with a poker so the core stays in the middle.
- Let the joint rest five to ten minutes before lighting.
How to smoke one
- Light the tip with a hemp wick or soft flame and rotate the joint until the cherry is even.
- Take slow, gentle pulls through the first third.
- Check for a canoe and touch up the slower side with the flame if one forms.
The center gets hot. A slow draw keeps the rosin from boiling out the side of the paper.
