Yellow leaves during flowering are usually normal in the last two to three weeks. The plant pulls mobile nutrients from older fan leaves and sends them to buds. If yellowing starts early in flower, hits new growth, or comes with spots and curled tips, treat it as a signal. The cause depends on where the yellow appears and what changed recently.

When yellow leaves are normal
Late flower senescence looks orderly. Lower fan leaves fade from green to yellow, then drop. Buds keep swelling. The plant is recycling nitrogen and other mobile nutrients. I do not chase this with a heavy feed. I keep the schedule steady and remove dead leaves so they do not sit on the soil.
Cannabis Light Burn: Yellow Leaves at the Top
Early flower is a different story
Yellowing in week two or three of flower is not the same. A plant that fades from the bottom up before buds have bulk is often short on nitrogen, or it cannot reach the nitrogen already in the pot. That second case is common when pH drifts.

Common causes when it is not normal
- Nitrogen shortfall: older leaves go pale first, then yellow. Plants in small pots or coco need steady feed.
- pH lockout: the nutrient is present but unavailable. Yellowing often comes with brown spots or twisted new leaves.
- Overwatering: soggy roots lose oxygen. Leaves yellow, droop, and feel soft.
- Light burn or heat stress: top leaves yellow or bleach while lower leaves stay green.
- Potassium or magnesium issues: yellow between veins, leaf edges that crisp, or spots on older leaves.
The convenience trap
Convenience has become the deciding factor in cannabis growing, and yellow leaves are where it shows. A bottle labeled bloom booster is easier than a pH pen. Auto watering is easier than lifting a pot. A calmag supplement is easier than reading the plant. None of those tools are bad. The problem is using them before you know the cause. I look for the pattern first: bottom versus top, old leaves versus new, edges versus centers. That pattern narrows the list fast.

A quick diagnostic order
- Check where yellowing starts. Bottom up points to mobile nutrients. Top down points to light, heat, or immobile nutrients.
- Check pH and feed strength. A drifting pH makes a good feed look like a deficiency.
- Check watering. Pick up the pot. Wet roots need air as much as water.
- Check light distance and canopy temperature. Bleached tops are not a nutrient problem.
- Change one thing, then wait a few days. Stacking fixes hides the cause.
In late flower, I let the fade happen. In early flower, I fix the root zone before I add another bottle. Yellow leaves are information, not a verdict.
